Profile/Story[]
Background[]
Archibald was originally a combatant of the Saltiron War, and one of the Saintly Seven of Hyzante. During an Aesfrosti attack, a general razed Hyzante while a group of Rosellan prisoners were locked away. Rather than defeating the general, Archibald decided to use the chaos of war as an opportunity to help the Roselle escape. While this flagrant disregard for the Goddess' Teachings caused Archibald to lose his position as a saint, he was able to settle in with House Wolffort. Archibald always remembered the martial prowess of that Aesfrosti general, and hoped to meet her again one day.
Unbeknownst to him, ex-general Groma Jurgina is the very general he recalled so fondly.
Archibald used to train Anna Pascal, with his superb dexterity helping to bring out Anna's skills as a spy.
Sundries Merchant[]

I Must Take Up My Bow[]
A single man survived the battle at the Citadel of the Sands, but who is he?
- Eagle-Eyed Elder: ......
- Eagle-Eyed Elder: ......
- Eagle-Eyed Elder: Got you right in my sights...
- TITLE CARD: Thirty years ago, during the Saltiron War
- TITLE CARD: Outside the Citadel of the Sands
- Eagle-Eyed Archer: Fly!
- Aesfrosti Soldier: Gaaah!
- Hyzantian Soldier: There are too many of them, Minister Archibald!
- Archibald: Then flee we must. I'll hold them here, but you lot—retreat!
- Hyzantian Soldier: Minister Archibald!
- Archibald: No... This cannot be how it ends...
- Archibald: My lungs yet draw breath... My heart yet beats... This place shall not be my grave!
- Archibald: So the cycle of war and chaos begins anew... And once again, I must take up my bow.
- Archibald: I've been watching you fight from afar.
- Archibald: ...And I like what I see. Almost reminds me of myself in my younger days.
- Serenoa: You flatter me.
- Archibald: Still, I doubt you'll emerge victorious. Without me on your side, that is.
- Archibald: The name's Archibald. Allow me into your ranks and you'll see I can match men half my age shot for shot.
- Serenoa: I couldn't ask one so elderly to risk his life in battle—
- Archibald: This graybeard survived the Saltiron War with naught but the bow on his back, I'll have you know. And my aim is just as sharp now as it was then.
- Archibald: I haven't many years left, lad, and I'd like to spend them fighting for a just cause.
- Serenoa: If that is what you wish, then I shall not refuse. We welcome your bow.
A Windy Day[]
Archibald reminisces about the Saltiron War with Anna.
- Archibald: ......
- Anna: Master Archibald... Is there something on your mind?
- Archibald: Ahh!
- Archibald: Goddess be good, I must be getting on in years for you to be able to sneak up on me like that...
- Anna: What troubles you?
- Archibald: I was only reminiscing. Windy days like these tend to blow my mind back a couple of decades or more...
- Anna: Reminiscing about what?
- Archibald: The Saltiron War. Hard to believe it's been thirty whole years...
- Archibald: Some days, I almost forget my time as one of the Saintly Seven...
- Archibald: I defended the Citadel of Sands through the conflict. I was there when Aesfrost attacked.
- Archibald: A number of Rosellan prisoners who'd tried to escape the Source were there, too.
- Archibald: Including our Lady Frederica's dear mother...
- Anna: What's this?
- Archibald: She stayed behind all by herself to help the countless numbers of her fellow Roselle flee. That's how she was captured.
- Archibald: But I knew we couldn't hold the citadel. So I helped her and her friends escape in secret before the enemy attacked.
- Archibald: The wind blew just as hard that night as it's blowing now. I'll never forget watching the Roselle, caked all over in mud, as they slipped away into the dark.
- Anna: So you didn't want innocents to get caught up in the coming battle?
- Archibald: It never settled right with me, the way the Goddess's Teachings permitted abuse of the Roselle for the supposed sins of their past.
- Archibald: A person's life isn't worth more or less just because of the conditions of their birth.
- Archibald: More than anything, I was moved by the selfless acts of Lady Frederica's mother. She reminded me of what I had once aspired to be.
- Archibald: She was able to do what I never could: risk her life to save her friends.
- Archibald: I couldn't let someone like that die. Not on my watch.
- Archibald: It wasn't long until the other Saintly Seven discovered what I'd done.
- Archibald: They branded me a traitor, stripped me of my title, and sentenced me to death.
- Archibald: Course, I slipped out of their clutches before they could have my head. Gahahaha!
- Archibald: I wandered for a while before taking up life as a merchant under the king of Glenbrook's patronage.
- Anna: I never knew you and Lady Frederica's mother shared such a past.
- Archibald: Well, it is in the past... Anyway, let us return. This cold night wind is making my old bones ache something fierce.
An Old Soldier's Regrets[]
The former saint has only one regret left in his heart...
- Archibald: Who in their right mind sends an old man on a scouting mission? Oh, Goddess take me... I can't wait to retire.
- Archibald: ...'Course, I can't very well do so until the war is over.
- Anna: What will you do once it is?
- Archibald: I can't say I have any plans in particular. But there is one regret I'd like to remedy.
- Archibald: I'd like to find my first love. I still dream of her, even all these years later.
- Anna: ......
- Archibald: She was the general of the Aesfrosti forces during the siege of the Citadel of the Sands. The turning point of the Saltiron War, that was.
- Archibald: I never learned her name. We were enemies, yes, but it was clear from the battle we waged how much we admired one another.
- Archibald: She cut a beautiful figure on the battlefield. Her every movement was majestic. More than anything, she was a fearsome warrior.
- Archibald: Truly, there is none in the world like her. I wonder what might have been, had we met in a tavern instead of as enemies...
- Anna: ...I see. I hope you can find her, then.
- Archibald: As do I. As do I...
- Brigand A: Well, lookie here. Easy mark.
- Brigand B: Heh...let's get 'em before they wise up.
- Archibald: There!
- Anna: ...!?
- Brigand A: Gah! H-he saw us!?
- Brigand B: B-but we're too far away! Ain't humanly possible!
- Brigand C: M...monster!
- Anna: How did you sense those bandits from such a distance?
- Archibald: Brats like that will never get the better of me. Until this war is over, I've only begun to fight!
- Anna: I can see you mean that...
- Archibald: Ah—that's it. I know what I'm going to do when we're done fighting.
- Archibald: I'll travel the land till I find the Aesfrosti general who caught my eye.
- Archibald: It's strange, but I sense her presence wherever I go. Might be she's closer than I think.
- Archibald: If that's the case, I'd better do what I can to end this war, and fast. Time to work twice as hard for an early retirement! Gahahaha!
Mid-Battle Conversations[]
Chapter XVIII, Part III: For Freedom[]
- Archibald: There was a time I admired your faith, Kamsell. But times change, and now I see you for what you are.
- Kamsell: Archibald...It pains me to see you turn your back on Her divine grace. Why?
- Archibald: I owe you no answers. Perhaps by this end of this, you'll understand.
Final Chapter: Blessed Freedom[]
- Archibald: Give it up, Idore. There is no future for the Goddess or Her Teachings.
- Idore: How wrong you are, Archibald. As long as we have the Holy One, Her future—our future—is glorious and everlasting!
- Archibald: Nothing lasts forever, nor should it. Time passes, and things change—that is nature's way.
Final Chapter: For Norzelia[]
- Archibald: Open your eyes, Idore. The future belongs to the young, not the old and tired.
- Idore: You were ever naive, Archibald, depsite your years. Only I am fit to guide us into the future. Do not think to stop me.
