Conviction[]

Roland - "She killed them all, Serenoa! I must avenge them with my own hand!"

Morality "I understand how you feel, but now is not the time for revenge."
Liberty "Then I'll not stand in your way. Avlora is yours."
Utility "Pray calm yourself, Roland. You needn't fight this battle alone - let us aid you."

Anna - "It will take many years to rebuild the town. Innocent people will suffer."

Morality "We must put down any threat to our demesne and our people."
Liberty "Prince Roland is my friend. I must protect him, come what may."
Utility "I will offer them due compensation if we triumph. If we fail, then all was lost from the start."

Battle[]

General Avlora's Assault is a battle in Triangle Strategy.

This battle is only available if the player chooses to harbor Roland Glenbrook during the scales of conviction voting in Chapter VII.

Terrain and strategy There are three sets of reinforcements that will arrive as follows:

  • The first set, two Aesfrosti Swordsmen and one Aesfrosti Shieldbearer, will emerge on the lowest terrace extremely early in the fight.
  • The second set, two Aesfrosti Archers and two Aesfrosti Shieldbearers, seem to appear after the Aesfrosti have taken enough losses.
  • The last set, one Aesfrost Archer and two Aesfrosti Shieldbearers will emerge on the upper terrace, along with a couple others on the lower terrace, and seem to appear after the Aesfrosti have lost more of their forces.

This battle has fire traps that instantly kill all enemies in range. While it is possible to complete the level without the use of fire traps, it is also difficult to do so. Not using the fire traps results in special dialouge, where Erador congratulates Serenoa for not using the fire traps.

An early advantage can be gained by placing Hughette in the starting tile closest to the statue that triggers the trap along the bottom edges of the map. The first set of reinforcements generally arrive before her turn, allowing her to instantly eliminate five enemy units on her first action.

During the exploration phase, a fourth trap in the middle of the map can be unlocked for use at the marketplace. While it covers a smaller area relative to the others, it is also fairly easy to bait enemy units into. Corentin's Wall of Ice is helpful in using this trap. By positioning units in the gaps around the walls, enemy units can be prevented from advancing beyond the trap's boundaries. You can get the trap by talking to Hughette who says another trap can be set up should the market place be cleared. This can be accomplished by talking to the townsperson at the marketplace, as Serenoa will convince him to pack up their stalls to prevent the loss of their business, and then talking to Hughette again.

Not using the fire traps[]

When attempting to win the battle without using any of the fire traps, one viable strategy is to pull all units back into the upper quarter of the map near the entrance to the keep. Avlora and the archers on top of the houses won't advance, while the other units will. This more patient approach reduces the number of enemies that have to be dealt with at one time, making it easier to keep party members healed, especially if both Medina and Geela are brought along. Corentin's Wall of Ice can also be helpful as it's large enough to make the nearby "stairs" to the upper terrace impassable, which may help split up enemy forces and limit how much the enemy can gang up on one unit.

This strategy also works for the first two sets of reinforcements, but by the time the third set appears, the enemies, including Avlora, may stop hanging back. It's necessary to clear out as many of the enemies that come within range as possible before this happens.

Another valid strategy is focusing on the archers and mages in the battle after stalling the forces as described above. The heavy soldier type enemies and Avlora do not have a high jump value, if Hughette is placed on the huts in the middle of the map she can fire at will without fear of retaliation.
