Chapter XVI: Sleep, My Friend is a chapter in Triangle Strategy.

Story[]

Receiving word that the duchy's forces are gathering at the Grand Norzleian Mines, House Wolffort quickly makes their way over. They defeat the Aesfrosti soldiers who attempt to explode the tunnels and find salt crystals deep within. Seeing the massive deposits before them leaves them with no doubts as to why Aesfrost assassinated Dragan and invaded Glenbrook.

Conviction[]

Anna - "So why are soldiers hiding in the tunnels?"

Morality "I doubt they do it on their own volition. It may be some tactic that they have been ordered to carry out."
Liberty "The burden of defeat would likely be thrust upon them if they returned to the duchy. They might just be hiding, knowing they have no place to return to."
Utility "They gain nothing by hiding int the tunnels. Perhaps they are luring us into some sort of trap..."

Roland - "What do you think should be done with the mines now, my friend?"

Morality "The mines are located in our demesne within the kingdom of Glenbrook. Let us manage them together as one of the kingdom's assets."
Liberty "Why not leave them for now? Someday the world will be at peace again and mining can resume."
Utility "We can use it to rebuild the kingdom and as a place to work for those who have lost their jobs during the war."

Battle[]

Serenoa Wolffort must defeat the Aesfrosti soldiers left in the mine while preventing them from sealing it with explosives.

Terrain and strategy[]

Letting even a single explosive go off is enough to lose the battle, but fortunately, they appear to take 67 turns to explode. This is long enough that they don't have to be immediately prioritized, but definitely keep an eye on them as the Aesfrosti soldiers periodically set them. Defusing the explosives is as simple as getting a unit next to them and selecting the special Defuse the Explosive action from the third action tab.

The mine carts are very useful for getting around, and also for damaging unwary enemies that stay on the tracks. Using a mine cart to travel is a matter of selecting a tile to move to that can only be reached using a cart within the unit's normal movement range; this isn't done via a special command. The exception is calling the carts to a stop, where a unit needs to go to a tile adjacent to a stop and use the Call Cart special action. Do note that since carts have to be explicitly called back with a special action, they only easily move one unit at a time. Carts inflict respectable damage, so be mindful of where friendly units are to avoid hitting them, but definitely feel free to use them to run over enemy units. One major concern with such a mobile battle is how easy it is to get units separated and away from support. Be mindful of how much danger units are being in as they are moved around and how to keep them alive. If available, consider bringing Milo as well, who is less reliant on the carts given her Moon Jump ability.

Two rounds of reinforcements appear during the fight. The first is a single group consisting of an Elite Blade, a Pikeman, and an Elite Bowman, appearing near the corner of the map opposite where Serenoa's party starts. The second comes in two groups of one Elite Blade and one Pikeman each, appearing near the other two corners, one in a lower area and the other in a higher area.
