Characters in Triangle Strategy include both those in the player's party and a variety of non-player characters including allies and enemies.
In new game+ (second & subsequent playthroughs), there will be chapters where it is not possible to field 1 or 2 of the 6 spoiler characters in any given mission; this is due to them either being deemed a witness to the battle; being an allied unit controlled by AI as required by the story or are the scripted opponents for the coming battle with duplicates not being allowed (only the dancer is available for all missions). In all cases they will retain their equipment; unlike Benedict, Roland & Frederica who will surrender their gear and vacate the party roster at pre-determined points in the story.

Optional recruits[]
An Optional Recruit is a unit who is not automatically recruited over the course of the game. Instead the player must interact with their notification on the world map when it appears, which will unlock the character to use. Optional characters are associated with one of the three Values, and will join House Wolfort once the player accumulates sufficient points in their respective virtue through dialogue options and votes. Optional characters do not vote during Scales of Fate segments, and appear in the encampment.
Other characters[]
Triangle Strategy features a large number of additional non-player characters.
