Overview |
Frederica Aesfrost is a playable character in Triangle Strategy. She is a member of the House Wolffort War Council.
Profile/Story[]
Background[]
Although Frederica's father was the previous archduke, Zigmunt Aesfrost, her mother was a Rosellan concubine. As such, her life was plagued with constant dissaproval and dissapoinment, especially from her two half-siblings, Thalas Aesfrost and Erika Aesfrost. Eventually she was betrothed to Serenoa Wolffort, in the hopes of strengthening bonds between the Grand Duchy of Aesfrost and Kingdom of Glenbrook
Lady of Aesfrost[]
Frederica is the sister of Archduke Gustadolph of the Grand Duchy of Aesfrost, and betrothed to Serenoa Wolffort. In Chapter I: A Young Hawk Soars, she arrives with Geela Breisse to the port of House Wolffort. However, bandits Trish and Travis catch wind of Frederica's arrival, and attempt to kidnap her before House Wolffort arrives. Serenoa makes it just in time to aid her, and with his help, she is able to push back the bandits. Frederica is then introduced to the rest of house Wolffort, including Erador Ballentine, Anna Pascal, and Serenoa's father, Symon Wolffort. Her arrival is met with joy and acceptance, as Symon Wolffort reveals his plan to abdicate House Wolffort to Serenoa. As the game progress, she follows Serenoa Wolffort's convictions, and grows into a stronger person.
Daughter of Orlaea[]
Frederica learns through her interactions with the Roselle that Orlaea, her mother, was a legendary Rosellan liberator. In Chapter XV, Part I: A Banner's Worth, she ventures to the Rosellan village and finds Orlaea's Diary, a legendary book detailing the Rosellans' secrets. She learns that not only were Hyzante's grievances against the Roselle false, but there exists a Rosellan homeland known as Centralia south of Norzelia. Frederica vows to do everything in her power to see her people find justice.

In Chapter Chapter XVI: Sleep, My Friend, Frederica and the rest of House Wolffort uncover salt crystals in the Grand Norzelian Mines. As the first ever non-Hyzantian source of salt in Norzelia, what Serenoa Wolffort and his war council choose to do with the crystals could shape the future of the entire continent.
Frederica's plan is to use the salt crystals to divert Hyzante's main force to House Wolffort, then sneak into Hyzante, liberate the Roselle, and sail for Centralia.
Frederica[]
Serenoa agrees to Frederica’s strategy, and the two come up with a plan. Serenoa decides House Wolffort would first sneak into the Ministry to steal an Aelfric, blow up the goddess’ statue with Dragan’s explosives, have Frederica rally the Rosellan slaves to leave, destroy the goddess’ shield using Aelfric, then finally sail to Centralia via Norzelia’s south-west waterfall. Benedict, believing Centralia to be naught but an irresponsible fairytale, refuses to accept Frederica’s plan. He duels Serenoa, and ultimately stays behind in House Wolffort while Frederica and Serenoa set their plan into motion.
Once Frederica informs Jerrom of her plan to liberate the Roselle, the villagers prepare for the exodus to Centralia. In order to make it into Hyzante unseen, House Wolffort receives aid from consortium merchant Clarus Brokker, and sneaks in during a Consortium delivery. Frederica entrusts her mother's pendant to Serenoa before sneaking into Hyzante, as a show of love towards Serenoa. When House Wolffort reaches the ministry, they kill Minister Lyla Viscraft, and take an Aelfric to destroy the goddess’ shield. Next, the party makes for the Goddess’ Statue, and prepares to destroy it with Dragan’s explosives. Although Minister Kamsell Pharant attempts to intervene, they quickly dispatch him and destroy the goddess’ statue. Mustering all her courage, Frederica rallies the Rosellans to rebel just as her mother did during the Saltiron war, and blasts a hole open in the goddess' shield. House Wolffort and the Rosellans board their escape ship, and sail for Centralia via the Norzelia River.
Right as Frederica’s group arrives at Norzelia’s border, minister Idore Delmira arrives via automaton to stop them. Although House Wolffort wounds Idore severely, Idore prepares to strike a killing blast on the Rosellan escape group with the power of Aelfric. In an act of sheer heroism, Serenoa keeps Idore at bay while the Rosellans cross the Norzelian border. As Frederica searches for her beloved on the other side of the river, she sees undeniable proof of his death: her mother's pendant. Steeling her resolve, she guides the Roselle to Centralia and away from the horrors of Norzelia. Years later, a child asks Frederica about her pendant, and why she holds it so close. Frederica tells the child the pendant belonged to two very important people: her mother, Orlaea, and her love, Serenoa Wolffort.
Roland[]
Serenoa assents to Roland’s strategy, and formulates a plan to go along with it. He decides House Wolffort will offer the salt crystals and Glenbrook to Hyzante, then unite with Hyzante for a full frontal assault against Aesfrost. Frederica is appalled at Serenoa’s utter disregard for the Rosellans’ hellish living conditions, and refuses to accept Serenoa’s conviction. She holds a duel with Serenoa, and tries to make him see the error of her ways, In the end, Serenoa defeats her, and she runs off in despair. Frederica promises to spread Orlaea's message to Norzelia, no matter what oppression she may face.
In the epilouge, after Hyzante seizes control of the other two nations, a bald nun is mentioned. Although this nun speaks of a land called Centralia and the falsehoods of the goddess' teaches, she is scarcely believed and often assaulted into submission save for the rebels and non believers who toil alongside the Rosellans as the cracks in the peace Roland created is likely to set the stage for a religious conflict.
Benedict[]
Serenoa assents to Benedict’s strategy, and devises a plan alongside Benedict. Serenoa and Benedict decide to first negotiate an alliance with Aesfrost, then utilize Aesfrost’s Deathsknell to breach the goddess’ shield and charge into Hyzante. Although Roland leaves the party in rage, Frederica follows the scales of conviction to the end. Serenoa uses his King Regna heritage to ascend to Glenbrook's throne, and negotiates an alliance with Gustadolph where salt is fairly distributed among Norzelia's people. Frederica has on last conversation with Gustadolph, where she refuses his offer to return to Aesfrost. Seeing Frederica's growth, Gustadolph returns to Aesfrost and prepares the Deathsknell. With Gustadolphs help, Frederica and House Wolffort destroy Hyzante, freeing the Roselle from their oppression.
While Benedict explains the Roselle will be freed, he go ons to say that no substantial aid can be given to the Roselle if Glenbrook's meritocracy is to succeed. Although she is saddened by her people's helplessness in this new form of government, Frederica staunchly serves as King Serenoa's queen.
Golden[]
Serenoa considers all three strategies laid before him, and deems them all to have dreadful downsides. After careful consideration, he formulates a strategy where the salt crystals would not be relinquished to any one nation, nor abandoned altogether. Serenoa splits his allies into three regiments.
Benedict’s regiment drives Exharme Marcial away from House Wolffort, utilizing their knowledge of the terrain and tactical prowess.
Roland’s regiment makes an alliance with Svarog Aesfrost regarding the Deathsknell, and kills Gustadolph Aesfrost by chance.
Frederica’s regiment heads for the Source and incites a Rosellan uprising by inspiring her fellow Roselle to realizing the lies of Hyzante rather than to meekly running away, killing Minister Kamsell Pharant in the process. Minister Tenebris Mistel is also implied to die in the ensuing Rosellan chaos when Jerrom's army of Roselle arrive to aid Frederica when Tenebris corners her.
The three regiments converge outside of Hyzante, and kill minister Exharme Marcial while Svarog readies the Deathsknell. After the Deathsknell breaches the goddess’ shield, House Wolffort charges into the Holy State, defeating minister Lyla Viscraft in the process. Although Minister Lyla begs for death, House Wolffort spares her, explaining she has a chance to atone for her inhumane research by releasing the truth to the world. With 5 ministers dealt with, House Wolffort marches into the Hierophant’s Palace to face off against the final two Hyzantian leaders: Idore Delmira and The Hierophant. When the party looks into the hierophant's chamber, they are shocked to discover the hierophant is naught but an automaton controlled by Idore. Absorbing the power of Aelfric, Idore and his mechanical hierophant face off against Serenoa in one last clash of convictions. House Wolffort is triumphant, freeing not only Norzelia but the Roselle once and for all.
In the end, Roland Glenbrook remains king of Glenbrook, Svarog Aesfrost becomes archduke of Aesfrost, and Lyla Viscraft serves as the head of Hyzante. The three dignitaries all convene for the momentous wedding of Serenoa Wolffort and Frederica Aesfrost and toast to a brighter future for all of Norzelia. As Frederica marries Serenoa, she is grateful that she was finally able to take a stand against oppression and forge her own destiny.
Character Stories[]
What Can I Do For You[]
Frederica has an important matter to discuss with Geela...
- Geela: Lord Serenoa never ceases to amaze me. Despite all the hours he dedicates to his duties, he looks none the worse for wear.
- Frederica: Even so, I am certain it takes its toll on him.
- Frederica: He wants to set an example for his people and those who serve him, and wishes not to worry them over his condition.
- Frederica: Excuse me, Serenoa, but is there anything I could do to help?
- Serenoa: Ah, Frederica. My apologies for the delay.
- Serenoa: The citizens' petition will require a bit more time, so why don't you and Geela return home ahead of me?
- Frederica: I see... If you insist.
- Frederica: But...please do not push yourself too hard, Serenoa.
- Serenoa: I shan't. Thank you, Frederica.
- Frederica: Of course...
- Frederica: Ah...
- Geela: Is something the matter? It's rare of you to sigh like that.
- Frederica: Did I? Oh my...
- Geela: It looks like something's troubling you. If you wish to talk about it, I am happy to lend an ear.
- Frederica: Well, to be perfectly honest...I sometimes wonder if I can go on like this.
- Geela: Are things not going well with Lord Serenoa?
- Frederica: No! Serenoa is as kind and gentle as ever. It is my own self I have doubts about.
- Frederica: I cannot help but wonder if I am truly of any use to him...
- Geela: Since Lord Serenoa is always working so hard, why not give him a tonic to boost his vitality?
- Geela: I purchased one from a merchant not long ago. It should chase all his fatigue away.
- Frederica: A good idea to be sure, but the fact remains it is not me myself that is serving him.
- Geela: Then how about preparing a meal for him? Something nutritious to fill him with vim and vigor.
- Frederica: Me? Cook?
- Geela: Yes. I am certain he would be delighted by anything that you make.
- Frederica: But I've never cooked before... I doubt anything I make would suffice.
- Geela: You won't know until you try.
- Geela: Besides...what matters isn't the result, but the feeling behind it.
- Geela: Use this cookbook. I am sure you will find a recipe or two to your liking.
- Frederica: Thank you, Geela.
- Frederica: Now then, which of these would Serenoa enjoy...
Beneath the Starry Sky[]
Frederica decides to cook a meal for Serenoa, but even the best-laid plans can go awry...
- Frederica: Do you have a moment, Geela?
- Geela: Oh, Frederica. Is something the matter?
- Frederica: Well...I invited Serenoa to have dinner with me tonight.
- Geela: That's wonderful! Are you cooking for him?
- Frederica: I am! I've been practicing with the book you gave me. I was hoping to finally show him what I've learned.
- Geela: Then allow me to help! What are you making?
- Frederica: A warm soup full of meatballs. A hearty, meaty, savory stew to tickle the tongue and sate the stomach—or so the book describes it.
- Geela: That sounds like quite a mouthful...in more ways than one.
- Frederica: The author is rather verbose, yes...
- Frederica: Anyhow, I also want to make an appetizer. Might you be able to lend a hand?
- Geela: Cooking is hardly my specialty...but say no more. I'd love to!
- Frederica: Oh dear...
- Geela: This is...disappointing, to say the least.
- Frederica: And we're almost out of time. Serenoa will be back any minute now.
- Wolffort Soldier: Excuse me, Lady Frederica.
- Wolffort Soldier: Lord Serenoa has just sent word that he has been held up at a meeting.
- Wolffort Soldier: He says there is a chance he may not even return tonight.
- Frederica: I see... Thank you for letting me know.
- Geela: It sounds like your dinner may get postponed...
- Frederica: A blessing in disguise. It gives us time to cook this again, and do it right this time.
- Geela: Lord Serenoa may not even return tonight.
- Frederica: But there is a chance he might.
- Frederica: And I refuse to disappoint him. Would you help me, Geela?
- Geela: Of course, Frederica. I shall do my very best to see this through with you!
- Frederica: I cannot thank you enough!
- Geela: The vegetables are done! Though they are a far cry from perfect...
- Frederica: The meatballs are ready too. Now all we have to do is stew them.
- Serenoa: Frederica, I'm back!
- Frederica: Oh! Welcome back.
- Geela: It appears we've run out of time.
- Serenoa: I was on my way here when something urgent came to my attention...
- Serenoa: I apologize for returning so late. I know we were supposed to have dinner tonight.
- Frederica: I am just happy you're here. Besides, I am the one who should apologize...
- Frederica: I wanted to cook you a meal, but failed terribly on my first attempt...so it isn't yet ready.
- Frederica: I'm sorry, Serenoa.
- Serenoa: Don't look so down, Frederica.
- Serenoa: I was delighted when you asked me to share a meal.
- Serenoa: Now that I'm back, why don't I help you with the food?
- Frederica: Serenoa...
- Serenoa: Thank you again for inviting me. I am overjoyed we could spend this time together.
- Frederica: As am I. I enjoyed cooking with you as well.
- Serenoa: The time we spend together is very precious to me.
- Serenoa: I regret that my duties have been keeping us apart lately...
- Serenoa: But when I noticed the sky was even more beautiful than ever this night...
- Serenoa: ...I hurried home, hoping we could gaze upon its beauty together.
- Frederica: It's strange... When I was in Aesfrost, I would look up at the same sky.
- Frederica: But it felt so much colder there. The stars seemed as if frozen. They did not twinkle the way they do now that I am with you, Serenoa.
- Serenoa: Frederica... Promise me that you will always stay by my side.
- Serenoa: I need you...now more than ever.
- Frederica: Of course, Serenoa.
- Frederica: I wish to gaze up at the same sky, sit beneath the same moon, and walk the same path you do.
- Frederica: Together...forever and always.

- Svarog: I never thought I would receive a scolding from you, Frederica. You have truly grown.
Chapter X, Part II: Ask Me Naught[]
vs. Sorsley[]
- Sorsley: Enjoy your freedom while it lasts. The moment I win, you will be cast into the Source and left there to rot!

Chapter XI, Part II: To the Bitter End[]
vs. Silvio[]
- Frederica: Have you no convictions of your own, you sniveling excuse for a lord!
- Silvio: Says the woman cast off by her own people!
- Silvio: Convictions alone do not make names for their houses. And did you not once surrender to Hyzante?
- Frederica: We will never be like you!
- Frederica: Our people are worth more than any legacy others might foist upon our house!
near Jerrom[]
- Frederica: I will see you on the other side of this, Jerrom! So long as I breathe, Hyzante will never touch our kin!
- Jerrom: I know what's at stake. On my honor as a Rosellan, I shall not lose!
Chapter XI, Part II: The Bloodstained Conscience[]
vs. Jerrom[]

Chapter XIII, Part II: Born of Strife and Sadness[]
vs. Erika[]
- Erika: Frederica...Your existence sullies the Aesfrosti bloodline!
- Erika: But it will be pure again-as soon as I have killed you!
- Frederica: Say what you will. I am proud of the blood that runs through my veins!
- Frederica: I have found people who love me for who I am. No longer will I let you or anyone else make me afraid!
vs. Thalas[]
- Thalas: Marrying into House Wolffort certainly gave you an inflated opinion of yourself, Frederica.
- Thalas: But you are nothing but filth, descended from a long line of filth. I will drag you off that high horse and make you remember!
- Frederica: Threaten me all you like. I am no longer so easily cowed!
Chapter XIII, Part II: Time to Say Goodbye[]
vs. Erika[]
- Erika: Well, well, Frederica, you're here too? For a horrid wretch betraying her family, you certainly seem calmer than I'd imagined.
- Frederica: You have never thought of me as family. Not once!
- Erika: Of course not; toys don't count. Go on, cry like you always do.
- Frederica: I am not that naïve anymore. Now I know better than to suffer injustice in silence.
- Frederica: I will never cower before either of you again!
vs. Thalas[]
- Thalas: Be a good girl, Frederica. Swear yourself to me, my beloved little pet, and I just might let you live.
- Frederica: You may believe otherwise, but you cannot threaten everyone into doing your bidding!
- Thalas: I will not be disrespected by some filthy Rosellan reject! You are a stain upon Aesfrost. One I will take great pleasure in removing!
- Frederica: I understand now... You are sad, and pathetic, and I happened to be there to bear the brunt of your discontent...
- Frederica: But no longer. That ends today!
Chapter XIV, Part I: For You, My Heart[]
vs. Avlora[]
- Frederica: General Avlora, please release Queen Cordelia.
- Frederica: I know you are wise enough to see she is no more than a pawn of Gustadolph.
- Avlora: I cannot hand her over.
- Avlora: House Wolffort will treat her no differently than the archduke.
- Frederica: I swear to you, we won't.
- Avlora: You are one of them now, Frederica. Do not expect me to hold back!
- Frederica: General Avlora...
Chapter XVIII, Part III: For Freedom[]
vs. Kamsell[]
- Kamsell: Do you intend to follow your mother to her grave? Perhaps your fate was decided long before you were born.
- Frederica: No, I intend to realize the future she could not. The Roselle shall be free.
- Kamsell: Free? You speak as if they were held here by force.
- Kamsell: They are here by the grace of divine will, to answer for their sins. Listen! They want to be here-they want to cleanse their souls!
Chapter XVIII: From the Abyss[]
vs. Lyla[]
- Frederica: Lyla Viscraft... You have inflicted enough cruelty upon the Roselle. No more!
- Lyla: What I did, I did as one of the Saintly Seven, blessed by the Holy One, and thus the Goddess Herself!
- Frederica: But you wanted to stop it. You knew it was wrong. The heart that beats inside your chest is still human, is it not?
- Lyla: Silence! You have no right to speak of what is in my heart!
Chapter XIX: Hold Fast to Courage[]
vs. Kamsell[]
- Kamsell: I see you have decided to follow in Orlaea's footsteps, Frederica.
- Frederica: How do you know my mother's name?

- Kamsell: As your mother was punished for her grievous crimes, so shall you be!
Chapter XX: No Turning Back[]
vs. Lyla[]
- Frederica: Withdraw your troops Minister Lyla! To insist on fighting is folly!
- Lyla: One day you will understand a mother's love. The willingness to sacrifice for something greater than yourself.
- Lyla: I've come to far to look back now. This is all I have.
Final Chapter: Blessed Freedom[]
vs. Idore[]
- Idore: You should be ashamed of yourself, Frederica. Seducing these poor people to follow a path that leads to naught but ruin...
- Frederica: They have chosen hope! Hope that their future holds something beyond the endless suffering they've endured as Hyzante's scapegoats!
- Idore: One's joy is guaranteed, so long as one obeys the Goddess in all things. You have cast that aside.
- Frederica: How dare you call what you've put them through "joy"!
- Idore: Oh, but it is. What greater happiness can there be, but cleansing oneself of sin?
- Frederica: We have revealed the Teachings for the falsehoods that they are! It is past time you pay for what you've done, Idore!
- Idore: Orlaea's spawn... That entire line seems determined to stand in my way!
- Frederica: I am determined to finish what my mother started, and lead the Roselle to freedom!
Final Chapter: Dance of the Automaton[]
vs. The Hierophant[]
- The Hierophant: ......
- Frederica: This is the Holy One? The Roselle suffered at this thing's hands!?

- Frederica: I will put an end to your religion of lies. On my honor as a Rosellan, this I swear!
Final Chapter: For Norzelia[]
vs. The Hierophant[]
- The Hierophant: ......
- Frederica: When this battle is finished, the rot of the Goddess's Teachings shall be plain for all to see.
- Frederica: I shall reduce you to scrap, and restore the stolen honor of the Roselle.
vs. Idore[]
- Frederica: The Roselle have been freed and the Saintly Seven are no more. Nothing remains of the Hyzante you built, Idore.
- Idore: On the contrary. So long as I exist, so long as the hierophant stands, faith can be rekindled. And Hyzante's glory shall be reborn.
- Idore: History is written by the victors. Truth is made by the triumphant.
- Frederica: You are blinded by your ambition, and perhaps have ever been. Norzelia shall not know peace until it is rid of you.
