Geela Breisse is a playable character in Triangle Strategy. She is a member of the House Wolffort War Council.

Profile/Story[]

Background[]

Geela was born into the Holy State of Hyzante, a cruelly systematic country where she was unable to study outside her field of work. Dissatisfied with working at Hyzante's Ministry, Geela left for the Grand Duchy of Aesfrost's archives. Geela was ecstatic to have the opportunity to study at Norzelia's greatest repository of knowledge, and read mountains of books from sunrise to sunset.

Svarog Aesfrost recognized Geela as the most talented researcher in the Archives, so had Gustadolph Aesfrost appoint Geela as Frederica Aesfrost's tutor. At first, Geela simply used her position as a means to an end, not caring about Frederica outside of what she was paid to care. But over time, Geela began to realize Frederica wasn't the pampered princess she had assumed her to be. Frederica's wit, kindness, and perserverance despite her station all encouraged Geela to support Frederica like a mother would.

Frederica's Tutor[]

Geela is Frederica Aesfrost's tutor, and accompanies her when she moves to House Wolffort for her betrothal to Serenoa.

In Chapter I: A Young Hawk Soars, Geela arrives with Frederica Aesfrost to the port of House Wolffort. However, bandits Trish and Travis catch wind of their arrival, and attempt to kidnap Frederica before House Wolffort arrives. Serenoa makes it just in time to aid the two, and with his help, the pair are able to push back the bandits. Geela is given a token of conviction, and follows wherever Serenoa Wolffort's convictions lead him.

Character Stories[]

Pillars for Our Charges[]

Geela realizes that she shares some surprising similarities with a certain someone.

  • Geela: Greetings. Were you training outside?
  • Hughette: Not today. Even I stay away from the proving grounds on occasion.
  • Hughette: The members of the Kingsguard must keep themselves in prime fighting shape. That includes resting when our bodies are weary.
  • Geela: Hmm. A wise policy.
  • Geela: The handmaidens of Aesfrost adhere to a similar principle: With clear eyes we see, we serve, we anticipate.
  • Hughette: Interesting. Although our tools are different, we're alike in our aims.
  • Geela: Indeed. We must be the pillars our charges turn to in times of need.
  • Geela: Even so, we are only human. If I may ask in confidence, do you ever find it...trying...to serve Prince Roland?
  • Geela: Is he ever unreasonable? Have you ever found your patience tested?
  • Hughette: N-no, never! It is an honor to serve, always!
  • Hughette: It is an odd question to ask... But I must confess I find it hard to imagine what it is like to serve in a society such as Aesfrost's.
  • Geela: As do I. Although I lived through it. It all feels as if it were so long ago...
  • Hughette: You're not one for speaking plain, are you?
  • Hughette: But I suspect we may have much in common. I am curious to hear your story, if you are willing to share it.
  • Geela: Of course. I made a promise to myself long ago to affect change through my own deeds. Not to live as a mere servant.
  • Hughette: And what came of that promise?
  • Geela: Hailing from Hyzante, at first I endeavored to learn at the Ministry, that I might use the knowledge gained there to help others.
  • Geela: But they guard their secrets fiercely, and maintain strict control over what fields their students can pursue.
  • Geela: As much as it pained me to leave my home, I could not suffer such stifling rules, and so set forth to Aesfrost.
  • Geela: I took quickly to learning at the Archives, where independent study is encouraged.
  • Geela: I spent days in the stacks, soaking up as much knowledge as I could, when one day...
  • Svarog: You are the one called Geela, yes?
  • Geela: ...Yes, my lord.
  • Svarog: They tell me you're the most talented researcher the Archives have ever seen.
  • Geela: I couldn't say that, my lord. Though I do spend more time here than most anyone else...
  • Svarog: Admirable modesty. And you aren't frightened of me. Most impressive.
  • Svarog: I believe we have a suitable role for you. Come with me. The archduke would have a word.
  • Geela: The archduke? But...
  • Svarog: No harm will come to you, if that is your fear. Now follow me.
  • Geela: Lord Svarog had arranged an audience with the former archduke of Aesfrost, who appointed me as Frederica's personal tutor.
  • Geela: She was the former archduke's daughter, so I took my duty seriously. Yet I could never shake the feeling that I had betrayed my ideals.
  • Geela: Perhaps I justified it by telling myself that my teachings could plant the seed for change.
  • Hughette: An indirect approach, but an active one nonetheless.
  • Geela: The chance was unexpected, to be sure, but I could not very well deny it.
  • Geela: The archduke's successor, Gustadolph, was a man that paid no heed to birth or blood.
  • Geela: He affected a change in people's attitudes, a change which provided fertile ground in which my teachings could take root.
  • Geela: Thus I stayed by Frederica's side. Truth be told, I had not thought to be with her for this long.
  • Geela: ...And yet, here I am. Life is truly a journey of unforeseen destinations.

Tutor[]

Geela reflects on both Frederica's growth and her own changes over the years...

  • Geela: It's become late. We'd best keep an eye out for bandits.
  • Hughette: You have a warrior's intuition. You needn't worry—I won't let us come to harm.
  • Geela: It takes no great intuition to see that this world is falling ever deeper into chaos. The reasons, however, remain elusive.
  • Geela: Will we see our way safely through this darkness? I cannot say.
  • Hughette: We have naught but our duty. And mine is to Prince Roland—whatever might become of House Wolffort.
  • Geela: I find your perspective refreshing. Although it may be direct, you walk the path you've chosen with confidence.
  • Geela: On the other hand...I often feel that I'm fumbling.
  • Geela: I had thought Gustadolph to be a man of reason, but now I see that he will not hesitate to employ deceit to achieve his goals.
  • Geela: In a manner of speaking, he and I are not so different. I, too, once hoped to have the influence to change the nation.
  • Geela: At least, I told myself so. Really, all I wanted was to be free. And Frederica was simply a means to that end.
  • Geela: As long as I had what I wanted, I had no great concern for what became of her.
  • Hughette: Geela, I...
  • Geela: But this war has caused me to reconsider that. I realize that Frederica herself is worth caring for.
  • Geela: She's not the sheltered princess I took her to be. Her wits are a match even for Benedict.
  • Geela: She surprised me. And shamed me. I was wrong to underestimate her, to define her by her birth and station.
  • Geela: She represents my greatest failures as a teacher, but also my greatest success. For she has truly taken my lessons to heart.
  • Geela: I see now there is no shame in serving another. And no shame in sacrificing my freedom for something greater.
  • Geela: Oh, but...perhaps I've shared overmuch. For some reason, I find it easy to talk with you.
  • Hughette: The feeling is mutual. You are not so aloof as I thought.
  • Geela: ...Ah! I've just had a thought. When the war is behind us, I may very well open my own school.
  • Geela: Of course, you would be welcome to join me. I would be master of the classroom, and you could be master of the training yard.
  • Geela: We could teach our students the art of hawksmanship. Our riders would be first-class!
  • Geela: Ah... What should our school be named? You will come and teach with me, won't you?
  • Hughette: ...Not half so aloof as I thought.

Mid-Battle Conversations[]

Chapter X, Part II: A Treacherous Soul[]

near Svarog[]

  • Geela: Lord Svarog, allow me to repay my debt to you here and now.
  • Svarog: I never thought I would see the day we fought side by side like this.
  • Svarog: I eagerly anticipate seeing your prowess in battle.

Chapter XVIII, Part II: Bound by Sorrow[]

vs. Gustadolph[]

  • Geela: Now you reap the fruits of your plotting, Gustadolph. Even your opening move was a blunder.
  • Geela: Frederica and I were sent to House Wolffort so you could use us against them. How has the strategy worked out for you?
  • Gustadolph: You are not half as clever as you suppose to be. You are yet pawns, moving on a board of my design.
  • Gustadolph: And it is time to discard the pieces that have outlived their usefulness.
  • Geela: You see people as naught but playthings. You ill deserve to lead them.
  • Geela: None again shall be made to suffer under your thumb!

Chapter XIX: A Dream in Winter[]

vs. Gustadolph[]

  • Gustadolph: Ah, Geela. So you abandoned my sister to stay with House Wolffort.
  • Geela: You see people only as pawns...
  • Geela: You have no idea what it took for us to get here.

Final Chapter: The Bell Tolls for No One[]

vs. Svarog[]

  • Geela: Why has it come to this, Lord Svarog? You have memories with your son here...
  • Svarog: That is precisely why I refuse to let the Goddess taint it with Her lies.
  • Geela: If only we could have turned that resolve elsewhere...

Final Chapter: For Norzelia[]

vs. Idore[]

  • Geela: So much talent and wisdom, all made to serve a single man's desires. How many have suffered at the altar of your pride?
  • Idore: I needn't concern myself with the opinion of one such as you. Talent and wisdom is worthless without a guiding hand, and that hand is mine.
  • Geela: I see you are beyond reasoning. All that is left for us is to ensure your twisted philosophy ends with you!
