Hughette Bucklar is a playable character in Triangle Strategy. She is a member of the House Wolffort War Council.
Profile/Story[]
Background[]
Hughette was a commoner girl living in Glenbrook with her hawk, Flugie. Despite being a simple hawk tamer, bandits on Glenbrook's roads once threatened Hughette's life for money. Just as she thought her life to be forfeit, Flugie led a wandering blonde spearman to her rescue. This spearman defeated the bandits in record time and asked for no reward from Hughette. Due to his royal ring, Hughette recognized the spearman as Roland, prince of Glenbrook. Roland's virtuous charge to her rescue lit a fire in Hughette's heart, and she trained herself ceaselessly to prove herself worthy for Glenbrook's Kingsguard. With Roland's blessing, she was able to join the Kingsguard as Roland's personal bodyguard.
Member of the Glenbrook Kingsguard[]
Hughette is a relatively new member of Glenbrook's kingsguard, tasked with the protection of Roland Glenbrook. She joins the party in Chapter II: To Arms, Brave Warriors, in order to help Roland and Serenoa win the Norzelia tournament. When Roland joins House Wolffort for the majority of the story, Hughette accompanies him. She is granted a token of conviction, and follows where Serenoa Wolffort's convictions lead him.

Character Stories[]
Forever In His Debt[]
Hughette and Erador embark on a hunt, and the former reflects on how she came into her position at the prince's side.
- Erador: A whole day of huntin' and this is all I have to show for it. Wanted to give Lord Serenoa somethin' meaty for once...
- Hughette: A deer is no easy prey. You are a skilled hunter.
- Erador: One deer to your three boar. It's plain who the better of us is.
- Erador: I don't reckon you let a single one escape. Could be huntin' is your true callin'.
- Hughette: Perhaps. Before I was knighted, I was keeper of the hawks' roost. And besides, I come from a long line of hunters.
- Erador: That so? Then what drove you to fight men for a livin'?
- Hughette: Glenbrook put out a call for hawkriders, that they might challenge Aesfrost's aerial superiority. I answered that call.
- Hughette: My training was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but I won a position in the Kingsguard, where I petitioned to serve Prince Roland personally.
- Erador: Seein' you in action, I'm sure you could've made a fine commander. Yet you stuck by the prince's side.
- Hughette: Yes, I did...
- TITLE CARD: Three years ago...
- Hughette: Flugie has yet to return. I hope he isn't in danger.
- Brigand: What's this, then? A traveler out here all alone, eh?
- Brigand: And in sore need of protection, by my reckonin'. Hand over your coinpurse, an' maybe we can reach an arrangement.
- Hughette: Bandits, here!? How could I be so careless...
- Brigand: I'd advise against runnin'. Ain't nowhere for you to go.
- Hughette: Gah...
- Roland: Enough!
- Brigand: Gyaaah!
- Roland: Are you hurt?
- Hughette: I'm fine, thanks to you!
- Hughette: Had you not showed up when you did...I could have ended up dead. You have my gratitude.
- Roland: Is that your hawk? It guided me here.
- Roland: I was in the middle of a hunt, but your bird cried out as if calling to me.
- Roland: Thank heavens I did not loose that arrow. I've never known hawks could be so wise.
- Hughette: His name is Flugie. And he's more than my hawk...he's my closest companion.
- Roland: The bandits are growing more bold by the day. 'Tis best you returned home.
- Hughette: W-wait!
- Hughette: I have scarce little to give in the way of coin, but still, there must be something I can do to repay you.
- Roland: Think nothing of it. It is the royal family's duty to protect our subjects.
- Hughette: The royal... Good heavens, you're Prince Roland! Forgive me, Your Highness!
- Roland: There's no need for all that stuffy formality. May we meet again soon.
- Hughette: Y-yes, Your Highness!
- Hughette: That was my first meeting with the prince.
- Hughette: He saved my life, and for that I shall be forever in his debt. I could settle for no less than the Kingsguard.
To the Open Skies[]
While out training, Hughette recalls a promise she made to Roland before the war began...
- Erador: At it again, eh? You know, even the Dawnspear set down his weapon on occasion.
- Hughette: We are at war. I cannot hope to end it by being idle.
- Erador: Hah, spoken like a true member o' the Kingsguard! You lot were always too serious for my tastes.
- Hughette: We were not serious enough. Where is the king we were meant to protect now? What will become of his kingdom?
- Erador: ......
- Hughette: King Regna and Crown Prince Frani are no more. Only Roland and Cordelia remain...
- Hughette: When I think of how lonely my charge must feel, I almost feel smothered by the guilt...
- Erador: If he's lonely, he hides it well. Could be that losin' his princely obligations has lifted a weight off his shoulders.
- Hughette: And who are you to speak on his feelings?
- Hughette: His father ever doted on Frani. He knew precious few moments of his mother's love before she passed.
- Hughette: Even so, he tried his utmost to never show weakness in front of his sister. He was there for her in the worst of times.
- Hughette: There was never a place near the throne for him. Truth be told, Ser Maxwell was more of a father to him than anyone.
- Hughette: I'd like to think I have been more than his guard. Oftentimes I felt like his...confidant.
- Roland: You and Flugie are constant companions.
- Hughette: As I said before, my prince, he is more than my companion. He is the truest friend I could ask for.
- Roland: A true friend? I must admit, I envy your relationship.
- Hughette: My prince, I did not mean to—
- Roland: Tis nothing to apologize for. I simply find the idea of soaring the skies with a true friend to be somewhat...romantic.
- Hughette: You could do the same, with the proper training. If it pleases you, my prince, I would gladly teach you.
- Roland: You would? Then I gladly accept. I trust you will go easy on me.
- Hughette: I can promise no such thing. You must become as ferocious as a hawk yourself if you wish to ride one.
- Hughette: War broke out soon after that. My promise to teach him is yet unfulfilled.
- Hughette: So I will train, I will fight. Until the skies are no longer clouded by the fires of war. Only then can I rest. Only then can we fly free.
- Hughette: Perhaps then...with the wind in our faces, we can forget our stations, our titles...if only just for one moment.
- Erador: Eh, what was that last part? You'll have to speak up.
- Hughette: Nothing! Nothing at all! Yes, it's back to training for me!

Chapter XIX: A Dream in Winter[]
vs. Gustadolph[]
- Hughette: ...Gustadolph, you will pay for what you did to the Kingsguard that day!

Final Chapter: For Norzelia[]
vs. Idore[]
- Hughette: We've come to many crossroads in our journey, and not always taken the right path.

- Idore: Soldiers aren't meant to think. Be quiet and accept your judgement.
