Medina Alliam is a playable character in Triangle Strategy. She is an optional recruit if the player has 500 Morality and 400 Liberty.

Profile/Story[]

Background[]

Medina Alliam was a apothecary working for the Holy State of Hyzante. One day, two wounded patients arrived at the Ministry of Medicine: One a Rosellan, and the other a believer of the goddess. Although both patients could have been saved, Medina was forced to only treat the believer while the Rosellan bled out. Medina, infuriated by Lyla Viscraft's order of treatment, left Hyzante to find somewhere which aligned with her convictions. She becomes a medic of House Wolffort, hoping to provide healthcare equally and fairly.

Apothecary[]

A former apothecary of the Holy State. Finding herself at odds with the Order of Things, she left the Ministry of Medicine and now serves Serenoa.- In-game description

A while after joining House Wolffort, Medina is put into a situation reminiscent of the one that caused her to leave Hyzante. Two injured Wolffort soldiers and an injured Aesfrosti soldier are laid before her. Rather than leaving the Aesfrosti to die, Medina orders her fellow medics give all three soldiers proper treatment. The soldiers all survive the ordeal, and the Aesfrosti is grateful Medina didn't leave him to die out of prejudice.

Character Stories[]

In Need of Guidance[]

In the halls of Hyzante's Ministry of Medicine, a young apothecary worries for the fate of her patients...

  • Aspiring Apothecary: It's an emergency! We have two patients!
  • Aspiring Apothecary: Both with extraordinary fevers. The Rosellan is unresponsive!
  • Ministry Official: I can't tend to both unless you can give me two more pairs of arms!
  • Aspiring Apothecary: Let me help! I've just completed my training and I'll do whatever it takes to save them!
  • Ministry Official: Are there no real doctors left!? Fine—come! We're losing precious time!
  • Lyla: Leave the Rosellan. We must prioritize the believer.
  • Ministry Official: ...As you wish.
  • Aspiring Apothecary: But the Rosellan will die unless we do something!
  • Lyla: Do they not teach the Order of Things in school these days?
  • Aspiring Apothecary: So what if they do!?
  • Aspiring Apothecary: What does the Order of Things have to do with saving lives!?
  • Lyla: Not all lives are weighted the same. You would do well to remember that.
  • Ministry Official: Quickly, Medina! These people are dying as we bicker.
  • Aspiring Apothecary: ......
  • Aspiring Apothecary: I couldn't save him...
  • Aspiring Apothecary: Orders or not, I was the one following them. It's all my fault.
  • Ministry Official: Where are you going!? Medina!
  • Wolffort Soldier: I beg your pardon, Lord Serenoa, but a doctor from the Ministry requests an audience—
  • Medina: My name is Medina. I've heard much about your house, and simply had to see it for myself.
  • Wolffort Soldier: What insolence is this!?
  • Serenoa: Stand down. Pray tell, what brings you before me?
  • Medina: It is said House Wolffort possesses a relic known as the Scales of Conviction. Is this true?
  • Serenoa: It is. We turn to the scales for guidance in times of trouble.
  • Medina: Then I wonder if they might guide me forward as well.
  • Medina: I...I had a crisis of confidence. A man was counting on me to save his life, and I let him die.
  • Medina: I cannot let this happen again. I wish to save all the lives I can, regardless of country or creed.
  • Medina: Pray grant me the chance to consult the scales, that I might walk the righteous path!
  • Serenoa: The scales are merely a tool to an end. They are not a magical window into the future.
  • Serenoa: When decisions must be made, all in this house have a say. We choose as best we're able, and strive to ensure we chose wisely.
  • Medina: ...You mean you strive not to regret your decision.
  • Serenoa: That is all one can do. Forgive me if this is not the answer you sought.
  • Medina: Then...would House Wolffort accept my aid if I offered it, my lord?
  • Serenoa: If you would serve as a physician, that would be a boon, for we fear the war is far from over.
  • Medina: I would be honored, my lord. I would see what I can do to rewrite the Order of Things.
  • Serenoa: Then let us walk the path together.
  • Medina: I am at your service, my lord.

If Only I Had Courage[]

Medina pledged herself to House Wolffort so that she could save people regardless of the Order of Things. However...

  • Hyzantian Citizen: By the Goddess, if it isn't my savior! I am truly in your debt.
  • Medina: I remember you. I treated you at the Ministry that day...
  • Hyzantian Citizen: I feared it was the end, but thanks to you I yet live!
  • Medina: I was not alone in treating you, and... I am happy to see you well.
  • Hyzantian Citizen: I hear tell the infirmary was overwhelmed that day. How fortunate the other man was a Rosellan!
  • Hyzantian Citizen: Never have I felt more blessed to belong to the Goddess's flock!
  • Hyzantian Citizen: Praise be the Goddess! May Her blessings rain upon you.
  • Serenoa: I do not mean to pry, but was that—?
  • Medina: Yes...
  • Medina: It is he who survived, at the expense of the Rosellan man's life...
  • Medina: Had we treated the Rosellan first, we might have saved them both. But I could not find the courage to disobey orders.
  • Serenoa: And in the eyes of the faithful, you acted in accordance with the Goddess's Teachings.
  • Serenoa: Denying medical treatment to non-believers is certainly one way for the Holy One to breed loyalty amongst Hyzante's subjects.
  • Medina: ......
  • Medina: Be that as it may, if only I'd had the courage of my convictions...
  • Medina: The courage to give both their lives equal weight, I—
  • Serenoa: It is hard for one drop to alter the current.
  • Medina: So it is. Nevertheless, I wish to try.

The Value of a Life[]

Medina goes to assist some nurses in dire need of aid where another critical choice is laid before her...

  • Nurse (F): Thank you for journeying all this way to assist us, Medina.
  • Nurse (F): I fear the healers in this region are otherwise occupied today. You have my apologies.
  • Medina: No need to apologize. You may call on me whenever you're in need.
  • Nurse (M): I have two wounded here!
  • Nurse (M): One of our own...and an Aesfrosti.
  • Nurse (F): The cause of all our strife, in the flesh.
  • Nurse (F): Treating the enemy first!? Have you lost your mind!?
  • Medina: His wound is far more grievous. We must tend to him, or he will die.
  • Nurse (F): What fealty have we to those who robbed us of our king? Who would drive us to ruin!
  • Medina: We may have no fealty to his nation, but we have a duty to him, as a man whose life depends on us.
  • Medina: Leave your talk of allies and enemies on the battlefield! It has no purchase in a place of medicine!
  • Medina: So long as I practice the healing arts, it is my duty to save them both!
  • Medina: They should be able to get some rest now.
  • Nurse (F): That was incredible, Medina.
  • Nurse (F): I am sorry for what I said earlier. I was not myself.
  • Medina: All is forgiven. At one time I would not have challenged you.
  • Nurse (F): Would that I had your courage.
  • Medina: You can.
  • Medina: Simply keep your desire to help those in need first and foremost in your mind. The rest is sure to follow.

Mid-Battle Conversations[]

Chapter XX: No Turning Back[]

  • Medina: Even now I struggle to understand the words you said that day. To see the wisdom in them.
  • Medina: And my time with the Wolfforts has given strength to my convictions.
  • Medina: I know now to look inward if I am to move forward. That is the only way I can live unburdened by doubt.
  • Lyla: You are yet a student, and know nothing of the way of the world. Even so, I am afraid I can offer you no mercy here.

Final Chapter: Dance of the Automaton[]

vs. Automaton[]

  • Medina: The Ministry's research progressed far enough they can create life itself?
  • Medina: I cannot—I will not abide this!

Final Chapter: For Norzelia[]

  • Medina: You've scorned the natural order Idore, giving life to the lifeless. You're beyond saving, Idore!
  • Idore: All for the good of the people. For that, I will go to any lengths.

Trivia[]

  • The name Medina might come from the real life city Medina, one of Islams Holy Cities, and translates to “city of the Prophet”. It could also be a pun of the word medicine.
